James Alfonso is an old native of Goa who has seen the Portugal rule, the annexation of Goa and the Indian rule coming back into place through the eyes of a man who has just tried to make ends meet for a very humble living.

Over the years he has worked on the fishing docks of Goa, seen it transform into something so surreal but something he could never experience - the floating Casinos.

​

He could never go to the casinos.They had always been way too expensive and he always had way too many mouths to feed. He would often wonder about what happens in the casino. He had heard so many stories - of fun, of loss, of mayhem, of women … With each passing day, he felt more attracted to go inside and see for himself but never could.

 

With all his children grown up and set on their life paths, and his wife sleeping peacefully in the heavens, he finally had time for himself. He could afford to have his Old Monk each night.

 

He would enquire about the casino time and again with a young chap, Tony. Tony would always give James sparse answers and then would try to shun him away as a poor man at the casino counter wouldn't look good in front of elite tourists.

 

Finally, he had collected enough money to go into the  floating casino 'Deltin Royale’. Rs. 2500 … big money for him … a fortune

 

He goes to the casino counter on the port. Tony and Reena are chatting away. Reena is a new employee at the casino and Tony seems to like her.

James shows Tony the money. Tony tells him that he is not appropriately dressed to go into the casino. He'd have to wear a formal shirt and pant which he doesn't own. But doesn't have any money other than the 2500 he needs to get into the Casino.

How he manages to get into the casino and changes everyone's life there instead of the other way round makes up the rest of the story ...
